Dave Altman, DVM

In 1996, Dr. Altman purchased the Animal Hospital of Onslow County, and has been instrumental in the growth of the facility and outreach to the surrounding communities ever since. Dr. Altman comes from a Navy family, having a father who served as a Carrier Aviator. A former military man himself, Dr. Altman served in the Navy as a Jet Pilot, and also served in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps.

Dr. Altman received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Marquette University in 1970, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1978 from Auburn University. He continued his education at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine to earn his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1982. From 1986 to 1989, Dr. Altman completed his residency in Clinical Pathology at the University of Florida.

Dr. Altman’s special area of interest in veterinary medicine is clinical pathology, cytology, hematology, clinical biochemistry, urinalysis, and dermatology. He is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Altman and his wife, Harriet, have a daughter, Hallie, and a son, Sam. Their pet family consists of Roxy the chihuahua and Harper the cat. Dr. Altman is also involved with community activities. He is a member of the Beaufort Ole Towne Rotary Club, the Sierra Club, and the Fort Macon Sail and Power Squadron. During his free time, Dr. Altman likes to travel, go biking, motorcycle riding, paddle boarding, and boating. Additionally, he enjoys playing the banjo and guitar.
